Rain or Shine
Praise God for the rain.
Praise God for the sunshine.
When I was a kid playing Little League, I loved stepping up to the plate and smacking the ball—but I wasn’t so crazy about the rest of practice. Chasing balls. Standing around in the outfield, bored stiff. Truth be told, once I got my swings in, I sometimes hoped practice would get rained out.
But come game day? I was all in. Uniform on first thing in the morning, tossing a ball up and catching it in the yard, pacing and watching the clock like a kid waiting for Christmas. If it were up to me, we’d have been at the field hours early.
Then there were the dreaded rain days—or worse, the chance of rain. I’d be a nervous wreck all day long, pestering Mom, “Do you think we’ll still play tonight?” over and over. If the game got rained out? Well, the disappointment hit deep. There may’ve even been a tear or two.
Funny how things change.
These days, I actually look forward to rainy days. I love that fresh, earthy smell, the way flowers soak it in. Sometimes, the rain even gives me a guilt-free pass to delay a few of those “around-the-house” chores. And when it washes away the pollen and dust? You can almost breathe better.
We may crave one or the other—rain or sunshine—but the truth is, we need both.
One farmer’s praying for rain to save his crops. His neighbor’s praying for dry skies so he can get that roof finished for a customer. That’s life. We’re all juggling needs and wants, wins and losses, sunshine and storms.
What matters most is how we carry ourselves through it all—with gratitude.
With praise on our lips, come rain or shine.
God bless.
