A Conversation with AI and the Birth of a New Kind of Parable
It started with a simple suggestion from a friend:
"You should ask AI what Jesus would do."
At first, I laughed. The idea sounded a little odd — like asking a robot to pray. But then I leaned in. What if artificial intelligence could help us imagine moral clarity in morally murky times? What if we could hold up today’s ethical dilemmas and ask, Not what would the shareholders do? Not what would a career coach say? But what would Jesus do?
So I gave the AI a scenario.
I named the character Jim Christie — a nod to Jesus Christ. Jim is a long-serving marketing supervisor at a corporation that suddenly shifts course. A new administration has taken over, pushing policies that value profit over truth. Jim is told to lead a campaign that misleads customers and silences complaints. If he refuses, he loses his job and retirement benefits.
What would Jesus do?
The AI surprised me. It didn’t just offer a one-line answer. It painted a picture of moral courage, personal cost, and redemptive possibility. Jim (Jesus) walks away, not in rage but in quiet resistance. He chooses integrity over security. He tells the truth, not to shame, but to awaken. He loses his pension, but finds his purpose — and becomes a catalyst for change.
That little parable hit me hard.
Because it’s not just a story.
It’s real life.
It’s what people face every day in boardrooms, classrooms, kitchens, and courthouses.
It's what you face when you're told, "Just go along," but your soul says, "No, this isn’t right."
🪵 Modern Parables: Stories Jesus Might Tell Today
That conversation sparked something deeper.
What if we began collecting and creating modern-day parables — not as pious fables, but as real, gritty, grace-filled stories of people wrestling with injustice, power, truth, and love?
What if Jesus told stories today about:
A teacher pressured to inflate grades.
A police officer who breaks the blue wall of silence.
A daughter caring for aging parents while working two jobs.
A tech worker asked to build something harmful.
A congregation divided by politics and reawakened by service.
The world has changed. But the questions haven’t.
And neither has the call to live with courage, compassion, and conviction.
✨ Want to Help?
I’m launching a blog and social series called Modern Parables: What Would Jesus Do Today?
If you have a story — real or fictional — where someone had to choose between comfort and conscience, I'd love to hear it. Together, let’s lift up voices of quiet resistance and faithful imagination. You don’t have to be a theologian. Just honest.
And if you're wondering what Jesus would do in your situation…
Well, let's ask. Together.

It’s sort of sad thinking a machine has better morale character than me. I’ve always felt like the humanity and compassion we feel could never be transcended into anything not human. Thanks for sharing…
